Defender John Mensah joined Slovakian side Nitra FC in a bid to force his way into Ghana's World Cup squad.
The former Black Stars captain was unveiled last week as a Nitra player until the end of the season.
He told BBC Sport that he is hoping to resurrect a career that has been on hold because of injury.
Mensah says his recent injury setbacks are behind him and is looking forward to playing at the highest level once again.
He rejected suggestions that he opted to play in the little-known Slovak league due to money problems.
Mensah was a central figure in Ghana's two World Cup campaigns, playing all four games as the Black Stars reached the second round in 2006.
Four years later, he captained the former African champions to the quarter-finals before bowing out to Uruguay in controversial fashion.
Former Ghana international Joe Addo believes Mensah's quality as a defender and leader makes him a good gamble for Brazil if he proves his fitness at Nitra.
"We have tried a few players in that position and because we have qualified for the World Cup we can say it has worked, but his experience, expertise and knowledge could be very valuable," said Addo.
"It's a big if but if he's still the John Mensah we know, the reliable one and one who will not be a liability then we should bring him back.
Mensah has not played for Ghana since appearing at the 2012 Nations Cup in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.
